Shunyi District is in the northeast suburbs of Beijing City, its urban area is 30 km away from the city center. It lies to the west of Pinggu, the south of Huairou, Miyun, the east of Changpin, Chaoyang District and the north of Tongzhou district, Sanhe City of Hebei Province. The district’s length is 45 km from east to west and its width is 30 km from north to south, its total area is 1020 square km. It locates in the south of Yanshan Mountain chain, the north of Huabei Campagna and it belongs to the ChaoBai River’s alluvium. The Campagna area represents 95.7% of its total area. Its hypsography is higher in the north and lower in the south, the highest point of northern mountain area is at the altitude of 637 meters, the district’s average altitude is 35 meters. There are more than 20 rivers in its area, which belong to Beiyun River, Chaobai River and Jiyun River water system. The length of all riverway is 232 km, the volume is 170 million cubic meters. The annual usable volume of surface water is 43 million cubic meters, the annual exploitable volume of underground water is 400 million cubic meters. The district belongs to the warm temperate zone, it has half-humid continental monsoon climate. The mineral resources which are already proved up in the district are mine, peat, cement limestone, marble, sandstone and clay stone, in which the reserves of mine are 2300 million tons and the reserves of cement limestone are 8 million tons, the one of peat, marble and sandstone is separately 1 million tons, 9 million tons and 100 million cubic meters.
