The shunyi district has very long history. In the period of Xia, shang and zhou Dynasty, it belonged to Bejing area which is in the country of Ji, You and Yan. In Xihan Dynasty, from 202 B.C. to 195 B.C., it was divided into two counties, Hunu and Anle, which belonged to Yuyang Village. On the year of Zhenguan 22, in Tang Dynasty, it was administrated by Shun state which was owned by Xihe, Qidan commander, it was managed by Tanhan state of Songmo government, Qidan before that (Songmo government is in Fuxin, zhangwu city, Liaoning Province). On 742 A.D., it was renamed Guihua state. On 758 A.D., it was named Shunzhou state again, which administrated Huairou County. On 1368, in Ming Dynasty, the Shunzhou state was degraded to Shunyi county which was administrated by Beiping government and then by Shuntian government. On October 1914(the third year of Minguo), Shuntian government was renamed Jingzhao special district. On June 1928, Bejing was renamed to Beiping, Shunyi was administrated by Hebei Province. On December 8th 1948, Shunyi county was liberated. On August 1949, Shunyi was administrated by Tongzhou, Hebei Province. On April, 1958, it was managed by Beijing City. On December 1998, Shunyi district was established.
